From Drifting to Driven

A few weeks ago, I was reading a book that asked a simple but powerful question:
“What are you capable of?”

Around that same time, I finished writing The Price of Boredom, and something clicked.
I realized I’m not overwhelmed — I’m bored.
Bored from living a life that’s far less than what I’m capable of.

For years, I thought hitting rock bottom was the worst thing that could happen.
One day things are stable, the next everything’s gone — your job, your comfort, your sense of control. But here’s what I’ve learned: stability can be its own trap.
It might just be the longest four-letter word in the English language.

The Safe Trap

Our fear of losing what we have makes us crave stability.
We tell ourselves to play it safe — don’t go for that promotion, don’t speak up too much, don’t take the risk.

Playing it safe works… for a while.
But eventually, you look in the mirror and ask,
“Is this all there is?”

You remember when you had real goals — when you wanted to change the world.
Now you just show up, keep quiet, and settle.

In The Price of Boredom, I talked about two big dangers:
Identity Drift and Wasted Potential.
Those ideas stuck with me.
I don’t want to drift away from who I’m meant to be. I don’t want to waste another fifteen years doing less than I’m capable of.

The Mid-Shift

So, I’m making a shift — out of the middle and into a driven life.
Instead of drifting from my real identity, I’m going to embrace it and go full speed ahead.

Over the next few weeks, you’ll see Mid-Shift Mentality take on a new meaning.
It’s becoming more than a brand — it’s a movement.
A movement from drifting to driven.

We’re going to ask ourselves tough questions:

Instead of wasting time on distractions, we’ll focus our attention on what actually matters.
Every action will be guided by three principles: clarity, consistency, and consciousness.

Fuel and Focus

When I’m drifting, I can always tell — because I have no idea what my next step is.
Lately, I’ve realized that my lack of focus often comes from two areas: food and time.

If our taste buds can regenerate every ten to fourteen days, that means we’re capable of change faster than we think. So if you’re low on sleep or energy, that’s not an excuse — it’s feedback. Your body is asking for better fuel.

And if you keep saying you “don’t have enough time,” maybe it’s time to look closer at where your attention is going.

I’m facing those same truths right now. My eating habits and time management haven’t reflected my goals — and I’m done ignoring that. The truth is simple: drifting shows up everywhere.

Join the Shift

It would be easy to wait until the new year.
It would be easy to make a few minor tweaks and call it progress.
But let’s be honest — we’ve been drifting long enough.

Your identity has already shifted more than you realize.
Now it’s time to take that shift in a new direction — toward purpose.

Starting today, everything I do will be done with clarity, consistency, and consciousness.

Focus for the Week

This week, decide that drifting is no longer an option.
Sit down and write out what you truly want from here on out. Be specific.
Think about the tools, habits, and questions that will move you forward.

Then share your thoughts with me on Instagram —
let’s talk about it, learn from each other,
and keep building this movement from drifting to driven.
